Four students injured after ‘Toy Bomb’ explodes inside school in northwest Pakistan

Four students were injured after a 'toy bomb' brought by a child exploded inside a school in Pakistan’s Khyber district near the Afghan border, police said.

PESHAWAR (Oct 4) – At least four students were injured when a bomb exploded inside a private school in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, police said on Saturday.

The incident occurred on Friday in a classroom in Jamrud tehsil of Khyber district, which borders Afghanistan.

According to the school administration, a fourth-grade student unknowingly brought a ‘toy bomb’ to class after finding it on his way to school. The device exploded shortly after being handled, injuring four students.

Authorities said the explosive was likely a mortar shell fragment, commonly referred to as a “toy bomb,” often left behind in former conflict zones along Pakistan’s western frontier.

The injured students were rushed to a nearby hospital, and police have launched an investigation into how the explosive ended up in the area.

Officials have urged parents and teachers in border districts to educate children about the dangers of abandoned munitions, which remain scattered in several parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
