Dhaka, Sept 27 – Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin on Saturday acknowledged the “numerous challenges—both visible and hidden” facing Bangladesh’s Election Commission ahead of the upcoming national polls but expressed confidence in the ability to deliver a fair and credible election.
Speaking at the Election Officers’ Conference 2026 at the EC headquarters, Nasir described the current situation as one where “for some groups, the circumstances are convenient, but for the majority, it is difficult.”
Urging election officials to uphold neutrality, he said, “You have pledged to work with professionalism and impartiality. We will issue instructions, but never unlawful ones. No one should work in favour of any party.”
Nasir stressed the need for special preparations given the volatile political climate, calling the upcoming polls “historic” and a chance to prove the Election Commission’s capability.
“No matter what has happened in the past, we must prove that we can do this. There is no room for exceptions, and with your cooperation, I am confident we will succeed,” he said.
He also highlighted the role of civil servants, noting that while they may hold personal political opinions, their work must remain non-partisan and in accordance with the law.
The Election Commission has pledged to issue “full legal and procedural directives” and ensure proper implementation across all stages of the electoral process.
