Sri Lankan PM Harini Amarasuriya will visit India from October 16–18 for her first official trip, to meet Indian leaders, visit IIT Delhi and NITI Aayog, and deliver the keynote at the NDTV World Summit.

NEW DELHI (Oct 15) – Sri Lankan Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya will visit India from October 16 to 18, marking her first official trip to the country since taking office, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said on Wednesday.

During her visit, Amarasuriya will hold meetings with senior Indian political leaders to discuss bilateral issues of mutual interest, spanning trade, education, and regional cooperation.

As part of the visit, the Sri Lankan leader will deliver the keynote address at the NDTV World Summit, jointly organised by NDTV and the Chintan Research Foundation in New Delhi.

The MEA said Amarasuriya, who also serves as Sri Lanka’s Minister of Education, will visit the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi and NITI Aayog to explore collaboration in education, technology, and innovation. She will also participate in a business event aimed at strengthening commercial linkages between the two countries.

A distinguished alumna of Hindu College, Delhi University, Amarasuriya will visit her alma mater during her stay.

Her visit, the MEA noted, continues the tradition of high-level exchanges between India and Sri Lanka, reinforcing the “Neighbourhood First” policy and India’s ‘MAHASAGAR Vision’ for enhanced regional cooperation.

Earlier this month, on October 2, Amarasuriya and Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha paid floral tributes at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Temple Trees in Colombo, marking his 156th birth anniversary.

Posting photos of the ceremony on social media, the Indian High Commission in Colombo wrote, “Hon’ble Prime Minister @Dr_HariniA, along with High Commissioner @santjha, offered floral tributes at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Temple Trees, the official residence and office of the Prime Minister, today.”
