Tokyo, Sept 30 – Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, currently on an official visit to Japan, met with Yohei Sasakawa, founding chairman of the Nippon Foundation, at the Imperial Hotel in Tokyo on Monday.
The talks focused on strengthening the longstanding friendship between Japan and Sri Lanka and expanding bilateral cooperation.
Sasakawa reaffirmed the Nippon Foundation’s commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s development, particularly in post-conflict regions. He outlined plans to renovate and modernize 100 schools in the Northern and Eastern provinces, aimed at improving educational infrastructure and opportunities for local communities.
President Dissanayake expressed deep appreciation for the foundation’s sustained contributions to Sri Lanka’s social welfare, education, and community development.
“The Nippon Foundation has consistently supported the livelihoods of our people, and we are grateful for its role in uplifting communities across the country,” he said.
The meeting underlined Japan’s ongoing role as a key partner in Sri Lanka’s post-conflict recovery and long-term development efforts.
