U.S, September 5: US President Donald Trump claimed on Friday that the United States has “lost India and Russia to deepest, darkest China,” as ties between Washington and New Delhi hit their lowest point in over two decades.
Trump’s remarks on Truth Social come days after the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) Summit in Tianjin, where Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and Russian President Vladimir Putin were seen strengthening trilateral cooperation.
“Looks like we have lost India and Russia to deepest, darkest China. May they have a long and prosperous future together!” Trump posted, hinting at Washington’s growing unease over the geopolitical realignment.
Relations between the US and India soured further after Trump doubled tariffs on Indian imports to 50%, including an additional 25% levy on India’s Russian crude oil purchases.
The tariff hike, which Trump said was part of his strategy to “push for peace in Ukraine,” has prompted concerns in New Delhi over economic and strategic fallout.
Analysts say the growing ties between India, China, and Russia reflect a broader shift toward multipolar alliances amid Washington’s escalating trade and security disputes with multiple countries.
