Peshawar, August 17: Pakistan’s weather authorities have warned of heavier rains across the country this week, as flash floods in the north continue to claim lives. Officials said on Sunday that the death toll from the latest wave of flooding has climbed to 327.
The downpours, which began on June 26 with the onset of the monsoon season, have left a trail of destruction, killing nearly 650 people nationwide in less than two months.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a heavy rainfall alert from August 17 to 21, cautioning residents in the northwestern provinces to take “precautionary measures” as rivers and streams risk further swelling.
Authorities fear that fresh rains could worsen the humanitarian crisis in flood-hit areas, where rescue operations are ongoing and thousands remain displaced.
