India: Senior IPS Officer SBK Singh Appointed as New Delhi Police Commissioner

New Delhi, India — July 31: Senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officer S B K Singh has officially taken charge as the new Commissioner of Delhi Police, according to a notification issued Thursday by India’s Ministry of Home Affairs.

Singh, a 1988-batch officer of the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territories) cadre, succeeds Sanjay Arora, who served as the capital’s police chief since August 2022.

As per the government order, Singh has been given additional charge of the top position. While the order does not specify the tenure, such appointments typically remain in force until further notice.

Singh brings over three decades of policing experience, including critical roles in counter-insurgency operations, law and order management, and administrative reform within the Indian police system.

His appointment comes at a time when Delhi continues to face complex law and order challenges, from high-profile criminal cases to managing large-scale public events and political demonstrations.

The leadership transition in Delhi Police is part of a broader reshuffle in senior policing ranks across India, as several states and union territories adjust to evolving security priorities and personnel changes at the top.
