UK Launches E-Visa for Pakistani Students & Workers

On July 15, 2025, the UK introduced e-visas for Pakistani students and workers, replacing physical visa stickers with digital records for stays over 6 months, enhancing security and efficiency.

On July 15, 2025, the United Kingdom took a significant step toward modernizing its immigration system for Pakistani nationals. “The United Kingdom’s government on Tuesday launched e-visas for Pakistani students and workers as part of an ‘enhanced’ border and immigration system,” as announced by the British High Commission (BHC) in Islamabad. This move streamlines visa processes for those pursuing education and work opportunities in the UK. “The announcement came just a day after the two countries formally signed the Trade Dialogue Mechanism Agreement and decided to establish the UK-Pakistan Business Advisory Council to institutionalise bilateral economic cooperation,” highlighting strengthened UK-Pakistan ties.

The BHC detailed the new system: “The UK Government is replacing physical immigration documents for most student and worker visas with a digital proof of immigration status, an e-visa.” This digital record, accessible via a UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) account, simplifies travel and status verification. British High Commissioner Jane Marriott emphasized the benefits, stating on X: “British High Commissioner Jane Marriott said on X that the facility was for ‘most students and workers applying for more than 6 months’.” The e-visa applies to categories like Student visas (including short-term study up to 11 months), Global Business Mobility routes, and Temporary Work routes, per GOV.UK.

X posts reflect enthusiasm among Pakistani students and professionals, though some seek clarity on application processes. The system, already used by millions globally, enhances security and efficiency, allowing applicants to retain passports. Dependants and non-study/work visa applicants, like general visitors, still require physical stickers. With plans to expand e-visas to all routes, the UK aims for a fully digital immigration system, fostering easier access for Pakistani talent by 2026.
