Bangladesh objects to BSF road work near zero line, tension along Kurigram border

Local protests near border
According to border and local administration sources, earth-moving equipment was seen operating near the international boundary, leading villagers to gather near the border and demand an immediate halt to the work. Residents alleged the construction was undertaken without prior notification and in violation of established border management norms.

BGB raises objection with BSF
The BGB lodged a protest with its Indian counterpart, following which multiple flag meetings were held at the local command level. During the discussions, Bangladeshi officials reiterated that any construction activity near the zero line requires prior consultation and mutual consent between the two sides.

Construction temporarily halted
After the meetings, the BSF reportedly agreed to suspend the road work temporarily until the issue is reviewed at higher levels. Officials confirmed that no clashes or injuries were reported during the standoff.

Heightened vigilance

Security has been tightened along the border as a precautionary measure, while local authorities urged residents to remain calm. Officials said the matter is expected to be resolved through existing bilateral border-management mechanisms between Bangladesh and India.
