ISLAMABAD, Sept 19: Pakistan Defence Minister Khawaja Asif on Thursday said that the landmark Pakistan-Saudi Arabia mutual defence agreement signed this week could eventually be expanded to include other Arab nations, noting that “doors are not closed” for such participation.
The strategic pact, signed on Wednesday by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, declares that any attack on either Pakistan or Saudi Arabia would be treated as “an aggression against both,” according to a joint statement.
Asif hinted that regional security cooperation could broaden in the future, potentially bringing more Arab states into the alliance, though no specific countries were named.
