PESHAWAR (Aug 21): Torrential rains, floods, and cloudbursts have caused massive destruction in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), with government infrastructure suffering losses worth Rs 20 billion, according to an initial assessment report submitted by the provincial Communication and Works (C&W) Department.

The province has emerged as the worst-hit in Pakistan, with the death toll rising to 380 since August 15. Roads, bridges, and public buildings have been severely damaged, disrupting connectivity and relief operations across flood-affected areas.

The C&W Department presented its preliminary findings to Chief Minister Amin Ali Gandapur earlier on Thursday, highlighting the urgent need for large-scale repair and reconstruction efforts.

Officials said a final, detailed survey of damages is still underway, but early estimates indicate long-term impacts on infrastructure and economic stability in the region. Relief agencies have been mobilized, though access to remote districts remains challenging due to washed-out routes.
