New Delhi, July 23 – India and Nepal have agreed to strengthen bilateral security ties and enhance coordination on border management, following high-level home secretary talks held in New Delhi on July 22.
The Indian delegation was led by Home Secretary Govind Mohan, while Nepal’s team was headed by Home Secretary Gokarna Mani Duwadee. According to India’s Ministry of Home Affairs, the discussions covered the full range of security and border issues between the two countries.
Key topics included maintenance of boundary pillars, tackling trans-border crimes, operational coordination through Border District Committees, and improving border infrastructure like Integrated Check Posts (ICPs), roads, and railway networks. Both sides also discussed disaster management strategies and the capacity building of security institutions.
The two countries welcomed the finalisation of a draft agreement on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters and committed to advancing talks on a revised Extradition Treaty.
It was also decided that the next round of home secretary-level talks will be hosted in Nepal at a mutually agreeable time.
