IND: Monsoon Session Adjourned Repeatedly Amid INDIA Bloc’s Demand for Debate on Operation Sindoor

The Monsoon Session of Parliament opened with disruption as the INDIA bloc demanded a debate on Operation Sindoor and the April Pahalgam terror attack.

New Delhi, July 21 – The first day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament was marred by repeated adjournments as the INDIA bloc opposition members staged protests and raised slogans demanding a debate on the Pahalgam terror attack and Operation Sindoor.

Lok Sabha proceedings began with tributes to victims of the April 22 Pahalgam attack and the Air India AI-171 crash, but were quickly disrupted as Question Hour commenced. Speaker Om Birla adjourned the House till 12 noon after opposition MPs demanded immediate discussion on national security issues.

Despite assurances that a debate on Operation Sindoor would follow Question Hour, protests escalated, leading to subsequent adjournments at 12 PM, 2 PM, and finally at 4 PM. The opposition is also demanding a statement from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the precision strikes in Pakistan and former US President Donald Trump’s claims that he brokered a ceasefire between India and Pakistan.

In the Rajya Sabha, similar disruptions unfolded. Chairperson Jagdeep Dhankhar admitted a motion on Operation Sindoor but deferred timing. Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge raised the issue of Trump’s statements, while Union Minister JP Nadda reiterated the government’s willingness to debate the operation.

Operation Sindoor refers to India’s targeted airstrikes on terror camps in Pakistan in retaliation for the Pahalgam attack that killed 26 people, mostly tourists.

This Monsoon Session will run till August 21, with a break between August 12–17 for Independence Day celebrations. A total of 21 sittings are scheduled.
