Sri Lanka announces special bus services for Diwali long weekend

The National Transport Commission will operate special bus services from Colombo’s Bastian Mawatha Terminal starting Oct 17 to meet the Diwali travel rush on routes to major cities.

COLOMBO (Oct 16) – The National Transport Commission (NTC) has announced special bus services to manage the anticipated surge in passenger traffic during the Diwali long weekend, beginning Thursday (Oct 17).

According to the NTC, all transport operations will be coordinated from the Bastian Mawatha Bus Terminal in Colombo, ensuring smooth travel for commuters heading to various destinations across the country.

The Commission said the highest passenger volumes are expected on long-distance routes connecting Hatton, Welimada, Badulla, Passara, Vavuniya, and Jaffna.

Authorities have urged passengers to plan their journeys early and make use of the additional services provided to avoid last-minute rush and overcrowding.
