COLOMBO: (Oct 28) Sri Lanka’s cabinet has approved the implementation of development projects in the eastern province under an Indian grant worth LKR 2,371 million, Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath said on Tuesday.
“The Public Administration Ministry is currently preparing the relevant agreements to be signed with the Indian High Commission,” Herath told reporters in Colombo.
The approval follows a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the two governments on April 5, 2025, under which India pledged support for 33 development projects aimed at improving local infrastructure, public services, and livelihoods in Sri Lanka’s eastern region.
The initiative is part of India’s ongoing community development partnership with Sri Lanka, which has funded a range of grassroots projects across education, health, and rural development sectors.
