Dhaka–Malé direct flights: The national carrier of the Maldives, Maldivian, has signed an agreement with its general sales agent in Bangladesh to restart direct flights between Dhaka and Malé from March 12, enhancing air connectivity between the two South Asian nations.
The agreement was signed in Dhaka on Monday between Maldivian Managing Director Mohamed Ibrahim Iyas and Ahmed Yusuf Walid, President and Chief Executive Officer of Galaxy Aviation Services, part of the Galaxy Bangladesh Group.
Flight Schedule and Fares
Initially, the airline will operate two weekly flights on Sundays and Thursdays. Return fares will start from $399, according to a company press release.
Flights are scheduled to arrive in Dhaka in the early morning, allowing passengers to connect with onward international services.
Passenger Facilities
Travellers will be entitled to a 30-kilogram baggage allowance along with complimentary onboard meals. Tickets can be purchased through the airline’s official website, mobile application, and call centre.
Demand Ahead of Eid Travel
Airline officials said the route has been relaunched in response to growing travel demand, particularly among Bangladeshi expatriates working in the Maldives, ahead of the post-Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr travel rush.
The resumption of the Dhaka–Malé–Dhaka service is expected to facilitate smoother bilateral travel and boost passenger movement between the two countries.
Officials Present at Signing
Among those present at the signing ceremony were Maldives Ambassador to Bangladesh Shiuneen Rasheed, Director of Ground Operations Ahmed Ibrahim, and General Manager (International Commercial) Mohamed Saffah.
Why This Matters
