Kathmandu, September 10: Nepal’s Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) has been shut down indefinitely following escalating violent protests across the country, officials announced on Wednesday.
The airport partially suspended operations on Tuesday after demonstrators attempted to breach its premises. With the situation worsening, authorities decided to close the airport entirely until further notice, leaving hundreds of foreign nationals stranded in Kathmandu.
In a public statement, airport officials cited the “critical security situation” and urged passengers and airlines to wait for official updates before making travel arrangements. The closure adds to the growing crisis in Nepal, where protests over corruption, governance, and police violence have intensified in recent days.
