Colombo, August 3: India continued to dominate Sri Lanka’s tourism charts in July 2025, accounting for the largest share of international arrivals. According to data from the Sri Lanka Tourism Development Authority (SLTDA), the island nation welcomed 200,244 tourists last month — a 6.6% increase compared to the same period in 2024.
Of these, 37,128 visitors were from India, representing 18.5% of the total tourist influx in July. The figures, reported by the local media outlet Ada Derana, highlight India’s consistent position as Sri Lanka’s top source market for inbound tourism.
The rise in arrivals comes amid ongoing efforts by Sri Lanka’s tourism authorities to boost regional travel, particularly from neighbouring South Asian countries. With improved air connectivity, visa facilitation, and marketing collaborations, Sri Lanka has been positioning itself as a preferred getaway for Indian travellers looking for short-haul international destinations.
Tourism remains a critical part of Sri Lanka’s post-crisis economic recovery. With steady growth in monthly arrivals, the government is aiming to cross its annual target of over two million visitors by the end of 2025.
