NEW YORK (Nov 5): Indian-origin mayor of Cincinnati, Ohio, Aftab Pureval, secured a second term on Tuesday, defeating Republican challenger Cory Bowman, who is the half-brother of US Vice President JD Vance, local media reported.
Pureval’s re-election strengthens Democratic control of Cincinnati’s local government and bolsters his growing stature in Ohio’s political landscape, Fox News reported.
The 43-year-old former special assistant US attorney first won the mayoral race in 2021 with nearly 66 per cent of the vote, becoming Cincinnati’s first Asian American mayor.
His decisive victory this year underscores continued voter confidence in his administration’s handling of city governance, economic growth, and public safety.
