Pakistan Security Forces Kill 17 TTP Militants in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Operation

Frontier Corps and police killed 17 militants linked to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan in a joint operation in Karak district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

PESHAWAR, Sept 27 – Pakistan security forces killed 17 militants linked to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in a major joint operation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, police confirmed on Saturday.

According to District Police Officer (DPO) Karak Shahbaz Elahi, the Frontier Corps (FC) and police launched the intelligence-based operation in Karak district on Friday after receiving credible information about the presence of TTP militants, including members of the Mullah Nazir group.

The operation comes amid rising militant attacks in the province, particularly in Khyber, Bajaur, and border regions with Afghanistan, where the TTP has expanded its presence in recent years.

Officials did not immediately confirm whether any senior TTP commanders were among the dead, but said arms and explosives were recovered from the site.

Background

  • The TTP has been waging an insurgency against Pakistan’s government since 2007.

  • Security forces have conducted multiple operations this year to dismantle TTP hideouts in northwestern Pakistan.

  • Earlier this month, at least 24 people were killed in Khyber district after explosions in a TTP-controlled area triggered accusations of military airstrikes.
