PESHAWAR, Sept 20 – The Peshawar High Court has demanded a report from the provincial police chief on allegations of harassment and forced expulsions of transgender persons across several districts in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), northwest Pakistan.
A bench of two judges issued the notice on Friday to Inspector General of Police Zulfikar Hameed and directed him to submit a detailed report within two weeks.
The KP Chief Secretary, District Police Officers from Swabi, Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu, and Buner districts, along with the Federal Ministry of Law, have also been named as respondents in the case.
The move comes amid rising concerns from human rights groups over the safety and rights of transgender persons in Pakistan, particularly in KP, where reports of intimidation and forced displacements have surfaced in recent months.
