Pakistan: 6 FC Personnel Injured in Bannu Terror Attack

Terrorists attacked an FC checkpoint in Bannu, injuring six. Police responded swiftly and launched an operation to track down the attackers.

Six Frontier Constabulary (FC) personnel were injured on Wednesday in a terrorist attack at a checkpoint in the Takhti Khel Wazir border area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Bannu district, police confirmed.

According to Bannu Police spokesperson Aamir Khan, the attack targeted an FC checkpoint, but swift retaliation by security forces forced the assailants to flee. The injured FC personnel were shifted to the Combined Military Hospital in Bannu for treatment.

Police have launched a search operation in the area to apprehend the attackers.

The incident comes just days after President Asif Ali Zardari signed an ordinance giving the federal government authority to transform the Frontier Constabulary into the Federal Constabulary, aimed at streamlining border and internal security duties.

This latest attack is part of a growing wave of militant violence targeting law enforcement in KP and Balochistan. The surge began after the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) ended its ceasefire with the government in 2022.

Bannu has become a focal point of this renewed militant campaign. A day earlier, Constable Hayatullah was martyred in the district while returning home from duty. On July 21, more than a dozen militants attempted to storm a police station in Bakkakhel but were repelled by alert officers. Separately, police foiled a sabotage attempt by defusing explosives during an operation in Ghoriwala.

On July 19, a drone attack injured two policemen at the Miryan police station, further highlighting the militants’ evolving tactics.

Authorities say the region remains under heightened alert as counter-terror operations continue.
