US Blacklists Group Linked to Pahalgam Attack

The U.S. has designated the group allegedly behind the April 22 Pahalgam attack in Indian-administered Kashmir as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO) and SDGT. The attack killed 26 people. India blames Pakistan; Islamabad denies involvement. The move signals growing international alignment with India’s stance amid rising regional tensions.

Karachi, July 18 – The United States has designated the group allegedly behind the April 22 Pahalgam attack in India-held Kashmir as a Foreign Terrorist Organisation (FTO) and a Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT) entity. The attack killed 26 people and has since been at the center of renewed India-Pakistan tensions.

While India blames Pakistan and links the group to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), the group initially claimed responsibility but later disowned the attack, according to some media reports. The U.S. statement aligns with India’s position, although Islamabad has denied involvement and called such allegations baseless.

Former Pakistani foreign minister Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari recently expressed Pakistan’s readiness to cooperate against the group, even as India claims China blocked a UN move to blacklist it.
