NEW DELHI (Oct 17) – Sri Lankan Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya on Friday visited the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi), where she interacted with faculty members, researchers and students to explore avenues for cooperation in innovation, research, and higher education.
Amarasuriya, who is on a three-day official visit to India, discussed opportunities for institutional collaboration between Indian and Sri Lankan universities, particularly in technology, digital learning, and skill development, officials said.
Earlier in the day, she met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and held talks covering a range of issues including development partnership, education cooperation, and the welfare of Indian fishermen.
As part of her visit, the Sri Lankan premier also toured the CM SHRI School in Rohini, accompanied by Delhi Education Minister Ashish Sood, to observe Delhi’s modern school infrastructure, innovative teaching practices, and digital education initiatives.
Amarasuriya’s India visit, which began on October 16, marks her first since taking office and underscores Colombo’s focus on deepening educational and technological ties under the framework of India’s Neighbourhood First policy.
