Lahore, July 26 — A Lahore court has issued a non-bailable arrest warrant for Senate opposition leader and senior Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) figure Shibli Faraz, while also summoning former Prime Minister Imran Khan in connection with an alleged attack on Islamabad Police outside Khan’s Zaman Park residence in March 2023.
Judicial Magistrate Sohail Rafique ordered authorities at Adiala Jail to produce Khan before the court on July 30. The case, filed by Islamabad Police, accuses Khan, Faraz, and roughly 150 PTI supporters of obstructing a police team sent to arrest the PTI chief for missing court hearings in the Toshakhana case.
The FIR, registered by the Race Course police station, alleges the PTI workers harassed and threatened the officers, while Faraz misled authorities by claiming Khan was not present—only for Khan to later address supporters from the same location.
The charges come amid a wider crackdown on PTI leaders and supporters. Earlier this month, several senior PTI figures were handed decade-long prison terms by anti-terrorism courts in Lahore and Sargodha over violence during the May 9 protests. Separately, 13 PTI members were sentenced to six months in jail on Thursday over last year’s “Final Call” demonstrations in Islamabad.
