Prachanda calls for constitutional amendment, timely elections to meet Gen Z movement’s demands

CPN (Maoist Centre) leader Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ urges constitutional amendments and timely elections to address Gen Z movement’s demands for inclusive democracy and political reform.

JANAKPUR: (Oct 23) CPN (Maoist Centre) Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ on Wednesday called for constitutional amendments to address the demands of the Gen Z movement and ensure that the upcoming House of Representatives elections are held on time.

Speaking at a party event in Dhanusha, Prachanda said Nepal is facing a “complex political moment” and that holding elections as scheduled is the only democratic way forward.

“The Maoist party has long advocated for a directly elected executive, a fully proportional electoral system, and inclusive democracy — principles that reflect the aspirations of the Gen Z movement,” he said.

Prachanda added that those who oppose these reforms “cannot truly understand the feelings of Gen Z.”

He urged the young generation leading the movement to “differentiate between friends and adversaries” and called for unity among all leftist and communist forces to safeguard the country’s political transformation.

The remarks come amid growing public pressure on political parties to reform Nepal’s political system, which many young activists say has failed to deliver accountability, employment, and economic justice.
