PESHAWAR, Oct 24: Eight militants of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were killed and five others injured on Friday during an intelligence-based operation in Pakistan’s restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, police said.
The operation took place in the Wanda Sheikh Allah area of Lakki Marwat district, a region that has witnessed a resurgence of militant activity in recent months.
According to police, the security forces engaged the militants after receiving intelligence on their presence in the area. Several weapons and explosives were recovered from the site following the encounter.
Authorities said the injured militants managed to flee and a search operation is underway to trace them.
Pakistan has stepped up counterterror operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan amid a spike in attacks attributed to the TTP and its splinter groups.
