ISLAMABAD: (Oct 23) Pakistan has resumed Afghan transit trade in a phased manner following the ceasefire agreement with the Taliban government in Kabul, local media reported on Thursday.
The trade, suspended since October 13 after deadly border clashes between the two sides, remained halted for ten days, leaving hundreds of trucks stranded at key border crossings.
Officials said operations have now begun via the Chaman border crossing in Balochistan province, with around 300 vehicles being cleared first.
Trade routes at Torkham and Spin Boldak, which handle the majority of bilateral and transit trade between the two countries, are expected to reopen next, depending on the security situation, the report added.
The move comes after both sides agreed to a 48-hour ceasefire, later extended amid mediation efforts from regional partners and appeals from the United Nations to protect civilians.
