LAHORE, August 27: Pakistan’s Punjab province is grappling with a severe flood emergency as torrential monsoon rains, combined with the release of water from two dams in India, have forced the evacuation of thousands of residents to safer areas, officials confirmed Wednesday.
Authorities said more than 250,000 people have so far been relocated from low-lying settlements along the Chenab, Ravi, and Sutlej rivers, which are experiencing “exceptionally high floods.” Rescue operations continue as rising waters inundate villages, farmland, and critical infrastructure.
Both Pakistan and India have been battered by weeks of intense monsoon rains, leaving vast regions under water and heightening concerns of further humanitarian crises.
