Nepal Army rescues 12 trekkers stranded in Langtang; 4 still missing after heavy rains

Nepal Army rescued 12 trekkers from Langtang after heavy rainfall and landslides, but four remain missing after being swept away by the Bering Khola river.

KATHMANDU (Oct 6) — The Nepal Army on Monday rescued 12 trekkers who had been stranded in the Langtang region following days of incessant rainfall and landslides, officials said.

According to the Directorate of Public Relations of the Nepal Army, all rescued individuals were airlifted to Syafrubesi in Rasuwa district, about 120 km northeast of Kathmandu.

However, four members of the group — including two women — remain missing after they were swept away by the Bering Khola river during heavy downpours on Saturday.

The group of 16 trekkers had set out from Kathmandu for a hike through the Langtang National Park, one of Nepal’s most popular trekking destinations, when the weather suddenly deteriorated.

Rescue teams, including army personnel and local volunteers, are continuing search operations in difficult terrain. Authorities said poor visibility and continuous rain are hampering the efforts to locate the missing trekkers.

The Langtang region, known for its scenic trails and high-altitude villages, has seen an increase in weather-related hazards this monsoon season.
