Dhaka (Aug 23): At least four people died from dengue and 247 others were hospitalised across Bangladesh in the last 24 hours, according to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
All four deaths were reported from areas under the Dhaka South City Corporation.
With the latest figures, the official death toll from dengue this year has climbed to 114, while the total number of reported cases has reached 28,202. Of these, 26,781 patients have recovered, including 20,647 from outside Dhaka.
Currently, 1,307 dengue patients remain admitted in hospitals nationwide, with 867 undergoing treatment outside the capital.
Health experts have repeatedly warned that stagnant water and poor waste management in urban areas continue to fuel the spread of Aedes mosquitoes, the primary carriers of the dengue virus.
