Pakistan SC Adjourns Imran Khan’s Bail Hearing in May 9 Violence Cases to August 12

ISLAMABAD, July 29 – Pakistan’s Supreme Court on Tuesday adjourned the hearing on bail petitions filed by former Prime Minister Imran Khan in cases linked to the May 9, 2023 violence, rescheduling proceedings to August 12.

Khan, founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party, had approached the top court after the Lahore High Court (LHC) rejected his bail applications earlier this year.

The cases stem from a series of violent protests triggered by Khan’s dramatic arrest by paramilitary Rangers on the Islamabad High Court premises last May. The unrest saw attacks on government buildings, military installations, and other public property in Lahore and several other cities.

Khan faces multiple charges, including incitement to violence and vandalism of state property, as authorities accuse him of urging PTI supporters to retaliate following his detention.
