India to Send Medical Team to Dhaka After Fighter Jet Crash Kills 29

India is sending a medical team to Dhaka after a fighter jet crash killed 29 and injured dozens. Most victims are students with severe burn injuries.

DHAKA, July 23 – India is dispatching a team of burn specialists to Bangladesh’s capital after a deadly fighter jet crash claimed 29 lives and injured at least 69 people, many of them schoolchildren.

The Indian High Commission in Dhaka confirmed on Wednesday that doctors and nurses with emergency medical support will arrive shortly to assist in treating survivors. The team will assess critical patients and may recommend evacuation to India for advanced care. Additional teams may follow depending on their evaluation.

The tragic incident occurred on Monday when a Bangladesh Air Force F-7 jet crashed into the Milestone School and College in the Diabari area of Uttara. The pilot, Flight Lieutenant Mohammad Towkir Islam Sagar, also died in the crash.

Of the injured, at least 25 are reported to be in critical condition with severe burns. Victims include not just students but also teachers, school staff, firefighters, police officers, and civilians who were in the vicinity.

To manage the crisis and maintain medical services, access to the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery has been restricted, with authorities urging people to avoid unnecessary gatherings near hospitals.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier expressed condolences and offered full support to Bangladesh. The upcoming medical mission reflects that commitment.
