Supreme Court reserves verdict on pleas to allow sale, manufacture of green firecrackers in Delhi-NCR

The Supreme Court has reserved its verdict on pleas seeking approval to manufacture and sell green firecrackers in Delhi-NCR ahead of the festive season.

NEW DELHI (Oct 10) — The Supreme Court on Friday reserved its verdict on petitions seeking permission to manufacture and sell green firecrackers in Delhi-NCR ahead of the festive season.

A bench comprising Chief Justice B R Gavai and Justice K Vinod Chandran reserved the order after hearing arguments from multiple parties, including Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, who also appeared for the National Capital Region (NCR) states.

Mehta urged the court to permit the bursting of green firecrackers during festivals such as Diwali, Guru Parv, and Christmas, without imposing restrictions on timing.

The petitions challenge the existing curbs on firecracker manufacturing and sale in Delhi-NCR, imposed to control air pollution levels that typically spike during the winter months.

The bench said it would deliver its order soon.
