Colombo, August 4: Four members of a family, including two young children, were injured in a road accident involving the official vehicle of Sri Lanka’s President’s Secretary, Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumanayake, late Saturday night in Thalangama, police confirmed.
The incident occurred on the Pelawatte–Akuregoda Road, near the Sri Lanka Air Force Camp, when the official car reportedly collided head-on with a motorcycle carrying four passengers.
All victims on the motorcycle—a woman and her two children, aged 2 and 6, along with another adult—were initially taken to the National Hospital in Colombo. The mother and her children were later transferred to Lady Ridgeway Hospital for further treatment.
Dr. Kumanayake’s wife and the driver were inside the official vehicle at the time of the accident. Police arrested the driver, who was later produced before the Kaduwela Magistrate’s Court. He was released on bail, with the court ordering him to pay Rs. 35,000 in compensation to the injured family.
Thalangama Police are continuing investigations.
