President Dissanayake Returns After Successful Japan Visit, Secures Dairy Sector Grant

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake returned from Japan after a three-day official visit, securing a dairy sector grant and boosting bilateral, trade, and investment ties.

Colombo, Oct 1 – Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake returned to Colombo this morning after a three-day official visit to Japan at the invitation of the Japanese government.

The visit, which began on September 27, saw the President serve as Chief Guest at the Sri Lanka Day celebrations at Expo 2025 in Osaka, according to the President’s Media Division (PMD).

During his stay, Dissanayake held a series of high-level talks to deepen bilateral ties and boost trade, investment, and economic relations. Key meetings included discussions with Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, Finance Minister KATO Katsunobu, Defence Minister DM Nakatani, Yohei Sasakawa, Founding Chairman of the Nippon Foundation, and Dr. TANAKA Akihiko, President of JICA.

He also met with Emperor Naruhito at the Imperial Palace and addressed the Japan-Sri Lanka Business Forum at JETRO headquarters, where he highlighted Sri Lanka’s new investment opportunities and reforms designed to create a more business-friendly climate.

A significant outcome of the trip was the signing of a Grant Agreement for the Project for the Enhancement of Productivity in the Dairy Sector, marking a fresh milestone in Japan–Sri Lanka development cooperation.

The President was accompanied by Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath and senior Foreign Ministry officials.
