ISLAMABAD (Aug 21) – Pakistan’s Supreme Court on Thursday granted bail to jailed former prime minister Imran Khan in eight cases linked to the May 9, 2023 unrest, when his supporters clashed with security forces and vandalised government property after his arrest in Islamabad.
Khan, the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has been facing multiple cases tied to the riots, which led to a sweeping crackdown on his party. Authorities accused PTI leaders and workers of orchestrating the violence, while Khan has maintained that the charges are politically motivated.
The Supreme Court’s decision offers temporary relief to the embattled opposition leader, who remains in custody in connection with other pending cases.
