Nepal’s Speaker, National Assembly Chair Urge Constitutional Solution to Political Crisis

Nepal’s Speaker and National Assembly Chair urge political parties to resolve the crisis through constitutional means amid talks on forming an interim government.

KATHMANDU, Sept. 12: Nepal’s House Speaker Devaraj Ghimire and National Assembly Chair Narayan Dahal on Friday issued a joint appeal urging all political stakeholders to resolve the ongoing political deadlock within the boundaries of the Constitution.

The statement came as a high-level meeting convened at the President’s Office, Sheetal Niwas, to decide on a leader for the interim government after Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli resigned on Tuesday amid violent, youth-led protests that left dozens dead.

“President Ramchandra Paudel is taking initiatives to address the situation while respecting the people’s sovereignty, civil liberties, territorial integrity, national unity, and independence,” the joint statement read.

The appeal underscores growing concern over prolonged instability as talks among political parties, military officials, and civil society continue without consensus on who will lead the interim administration.
