KATHMANDU (Nov 3): Nepal’s Prime Minister Sushila Karki on Sunday met with chief ministers of all seven provinces to review the country’s security and law and order situation ahead of the general elections scheduled for March 5, 2026.
During the meeting at Singha Durbar, provincial leaders briefed the prime minister on local security challenges and pledged full cooperation with the federal government to ensure a peaceful and credible election.
“The provincial governments are ready to coordinate closely with security agencies and the Election Commission to maintain law and order,” one chief minister told reporters after the meeting.
PM Karki underscored the importance of creating a “conducive political and administrative environment” before the polls, adding that the federal government would provide all necessary logistical and financial support to provincial authorities.
The meeting also discussed strengthening coordination between the police, local administrations, and provincial security councils amid concerns about rising political tensions in some districts.
Karki has been holding a series of consultations with political parties, civil society leaders, and the Gen Z youth group in recent weeks to build consensus for the upcoming parliamentary elections — the first since the dissolution of the previous parliament earlier this year.
