Kathmandu, Sep 29 – Nepal’s newly-appointed Prime Minister Sushila Karki on Monday reaffirmed her interim government’s commitment to holding general elections on schedule, dispelling concerns of possible delays amid political turmoil.
Karki, 73, assumed office on September 12 following the ouster of former Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli after youth-led Gen Z protests erupted over corruption allegations and a ban on social media.
In her Bada Dashain message on Monday, the Prime Minister said the elections for the House of Representatives would be held on time, the Himalayan Times reported.
Karki’s appointment came after days of political uncertainty as public anger against the previous government escalated into violent demonstrations demanding accountability and reforms.
