NEW DELHI (Aug 18): Leaders of the Opposition’s INDIA Bloc met on Monday to discuss the possibility of moving an impeachment notice against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar, escalating their protests over alleged irregularities in Bihar’s voter roll revision.
The meeting took place in the chamber of Rajya Sabha Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge. According to sources, members expressed dissatisfaction over the CEC’s press conference on Sunday, where he reportedly avoided addressing questions raised by the Opposition.
Some MPs argued the matter should be taken further, suggesting an impeachment motion against the CEC. The move, if pursued, could set off a significant political showdown ahead of upcoming state elections.
