Dhaka, August 12: Bangladesh’s interim government is taking all necessary measures to ensure that the country’s upcoming general elections are conducted in a free, fair, and peaceful manner, Home Adviser Lt Gen (Retd) Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said on Monday.
The parliamentary polls are scheduled for February 2026, with the exact date to be formally announced by the Election Commission.
Speaking during a visit to a polling centre in Keraniganj, Chowdhury stressed that the government’s priority is to guarantee a smooth electoral process. “The tentative date has been announced, but the Election Commission will declare the specific date,” he told reporters, as quoted by the state-run Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS).
The adviser’s statement comes amid growing attention from both domestic and international observers, who are closely monitoring Bangladesh’s political climate in the run-up to the elections.
