US, Chinese Envoys Hold Separate Talks with Nepal PM Sushila Karki

US and Chinese ambassadors meet Nepal’s first woman PM Sushila Karki in Kathmandu to discuss bilateral issues following political upheaval in the country.

KATHMANDU, Sept 18: Nepal’s new Prime Minister Sushila Karki on Thursday met the ambassadors of China and the United States separately to discuss bilateral issues, officials confirmed.

The meetings took place at the Prime Minister’s Office in Singh Durbar. Details of the discussions have not been publicly disclosed but are seen as part of Kathmandu’s outreach to key international partners amid a shifting political landscape.

Karki, 73, was sworn in as Nepal’s first female prime minister on September 12 following youth-led “Gen Z” protests that toppled former PM K P Sharma Oli’s government over corruption and social media restrictions.
