Washington, D.C. | August 4 – Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to the United States, Mahinda Samarasinghe, said diplomatic talks are ongoing to further reduce U.S. tariffs on Sri Lankan exports, in a move aimed at boosting trade and supporting the country’s economic recovery.

Speaking during a visit to the Maryland International Buddhist Temple, Ambassador Samarasinghe emphasized the importance of sustained engagement with U.S. counterparts. He noted that tariff concessions play a vital role in reducing export costs and improving market access for Sri Lankan goods.

The Ambassador sought blessings from the Chief Adhikarana Sanghanayaka of North America, Most Venerable Katugastota Uparathana Nayaka Thera, and briefed him on the progress made in securing trade benefits under the direction of the Sri Lankan government.

The Nayaka Thera lauded the ambassador’s efforts, expressing appreciation for the embassy’s ongoing work to strengthen Sri Lanka’s diplomatic and economic presence in the U.S.
