KARACHI: (Oct 23) Seven labourers were abducted by armed men in Balochistan’s Mastung district, officials said on Thursday, highlighting the deteriorating security situation in Pakistan’s insurgency-hit province.
The incident occurred in the Siyah Posh area of Dasht, where the men were working on the construction of a new security checkpoint, according to security sources.
The abducted workers include five from Sindh province and two locals, all of whom were seized by unidentified gunmen from the remote mountainous region.
Security forces have launched a search operation in the area to locate the missing workers, but no group has so far claimed responsibility for the abduction.
Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest yet least populated province, has long struggled with insurgency, militant attacks, and abductions targeting security personnel, labourers, and infrastructure projects.
