Colombo, Oct 2 – Sri Lanka’s top anti-graft official, Ranga Dissanayake, has dismissed allegations of his involvement in active politics as “completely false,” calling it a deliberate attempt to discredit the country’s anti-corruption watchdog.
Dissanayake, the Director General of the Commission to Investigate Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), said on Thursday that his duty was to uphold the Commission’s mandate “without fear or favour.”
“This is nothing more than a sinister campaign to tarnish the image of CIABOC,” he said.
The Commission, strengthened by the 2023 anti-corruption law, has intensified its activities in recent months, filing a surge of cases against opposition figures and public officials. This renewed activism has placed CIABOC at the centre of Sri Lanka’s political debate, drawing criticism over alleged bias in its operations.
