Seven TTP terrorists killed, Army Major dead in northwest Pakistan operation

Seven TTP militants were killed and an Army Major died during an intelligence-based operation in Dera Ismail Khan, northwest Pakistan, the military said.

PESHAWAR (Oct 9) — At least seven terrorists linked to the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) were killed during an intelligence-based operation in the restive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, the Pakistan military said on Thursday.

According to a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation was launched in the Daraban area of Dera Ismail Khan district on Wednesday after security forces received reports about the presence of militants belonging to the faction known as “Fitna al-Khwarij.”

The ISPR said that an Army Major also lost his life in the fierce exchange of fire.

“During the operation, intense fire was exchanged between security forces and terrorists, resulting in the killing of seven militants. Weapons, ammunition, and explosives were also recovered from the site,” the military statement said.

The TTP, responsible for numerous attacks on Pakistani security personnel, has increased its activities across the province in recent months, despite ongoing counter-terrorism operations.

The military reaffirmed its resolve to “eliminate terrorism from Pakistan at all costs.”
