Pakistan Court Hands 33-Year Jail Term to Taliban Militant in Punjab

A Pakistani court sentenced TTP militant Adeel Baloch to 33 years in prison after his arrest in Punjab’s Layyah district earlier this year.

Lahore, Oct 1 (PTI) – A Pakistani anti-terrorism court has sentenced a Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) militant to 33 years in prison for his involvement in terror activities in Punjab, officials said Wednesday.

The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of Punjab police said Adeel Baloch, 23, a resident of Layyah district about 490 km from Lahore, was arrested in a raid in May.

“Anti-Terrorism Court (Sahiwal) Special Judge Ziaullah Khan awarded a 33-year jail term to Adeel Baloch in light of the prosecution’s evidence against him,” the CTD said in a statement.

Baloch was convicted on multiple charges related to terrorism under Pakistan’s anti-terror laws, marking another move by authorities to clamp down on militant activity in Punjab province.
