PESHAWAR (Oct 6) — A policeman was killed and a paramilitary personnel injured when terrorists attacked a police checkpost in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Kohat district early Monday, police officials said.
According to authorities, scores of unidentified assailants opened fire on the Tor Chappur checkpost in Darra Adam Khel around 1 am, targeting the post from multiple directions.
The attack led to a gunfight lasting over two hours, said District Police Officer Zahidullah Khan, adding that one policeman was killed and a member of the Federal Constabulary sustained injuries during the exchange of fire.
Security forces later launched a search operation in the surrounding area to track down the attackers, who managed to flee under the cover of darkness.
Terror attacks targeting police and security installations have risen sharply in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in recent months, as militants step up operations near the Afghan border.
