KATHMANDU (Oct 10) — CPN-UML Chair and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Wednesday called for the reinstatement of the dissolved House of Representatives, stressing that Nepal needs national unity and political stability to move forward.
Speaking at a programme organised by the UML Bhaktapur District Committee in Gundu, Oli said his party supports the reinstatement of Parliament and expressed confidence that the Nepali Congress would also back the initiative.
He emphasised that any plan to hold elections must be carried out with the confidence and participation of all political parties, saying, “The country now needs unity, stability, and a positive environment to ensure peace and prosperity.”
UML General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel echoed Oli’s remarks, urging political consensus instead of internal disputes to address the current challenges. Senior leaders Dr Rajan Bhattarai and Mahesh Basnet also underlined the need to strengthen the UML as a unified force to safeguard democracy.
Following the Gen Z-led movement on September 8–9, Nepal’s parliament was dissolved, and a caretaker government headed by former Chief Justice Sushila Karki was formed. The next parliamentary elections are scheduled for March 5, 2026.
